Project Statement
The sculpture, Willow, is a representation of the Lee Kum Kee Company core values. These include Family, Business and Health. It is a three armed scale that uses balance to bring the three values to a visual poise. The idea of the sculpture revolves around the conceptual balance of these values as well as the movement that is forced upon it by elements of nature.
Each arm holds a bowl with interpretations of the company values. Family is central to the company. The depiction in this bowl is that of 26 people interacting with each other. They are each participating in their own roles to bring balance to the bowl and the company. Health is a significant gift of life. In this bowl we emphasize the ginkgo leaf, a symbol of good health and longevity. Business is what brings the project together. In this bowl we have an oyster on a plate with chopsticks. The oyster is not only a representation of the culture of Chinese food, but also a symbol of the company The beginning of this Worldwide acclaimed company started with oyster sauce, and with all the elements in balance the company has grown successful.
The name Willow was inspired by the swaying of the trees. In particular, a willow tree whose branches hang low and are in constant interaction with the wind. The sculpture calls for movement. Our piece relies on nature to make it move, tilt and sway making business higher than health or health higher than family, but only for a moment. The quality of the work is that everything comes back to center, an equilibrium necessary to the success of a business and to each person a part of it.
